Gabriel L. Manor

Director of DevRel @ Permit.io

I'm a senior full-stack developer with a favorite kid named Frontend.
For over ten years now, I've enjoyed writing clean code, simplifying complex problems, leading feature development, and influencing innovation every day.
When Im not busy with code, youll find me talking about application performance, building confidence in code-bases, product architecture, developing organizational culture, and other nerdy dev stuff.
Besides all that, I'm a father of two, a hobbyist photographer, lego builder, and food creator.

Presentations

In the dicey waters of the end of 2022, the company I worked for decided to shift its GTM and Growth direction, and I found myself laid off from my first job as a DevRel.
Generally, developers blame market conditions and the company's failure when they lay off on such occasions. However, as a DevRel, it is also an opportunity to learn how to make the next chapter better. There's nothing better than learning from failure!
In this talk, I'll cover the key advantages that I took from my company's decision. Throughout my presentation, I will share practical tools to help you craft your DevRel journey and measure your success with product strategy. We will cover many exciting topics, including a better understanding software business approaches, creating transparent work progress, and declaring better activation flows.

Open source is no longer just a development model. It has evolved into a robust go-to-market strategy for companies. This is because open-source products offer several benefits that traditional closed-source pro
ducts do not. For example, open source allows for a faster development cycle, lower costs, and a wider range of potential customers. The popularity of open source has also led to a growing number of companies relying on it as a core part of their business model.

However, like any other business strategy, relying on open source has challenges. Among the challenges open-source products face are a lack of control over the roadmap, difficulty monetizing, and managing the contributor community. Despite these challenges, many companies can still successfully use open source as a go-to-market strategy.

In this talk, we will share our journey with OPAL, an administration layer for Open Policy. Our lessons learned along the way will be discussed, as well as the pivots we made to ensure our success. Our open-source strategy has also allowed us to build a sustainable business model. This talk will provide insights into the potential of open source as a go-to-market strategy, and the steps companies can take to ensure success.
